Children's Library Ambassador

Our Open House Ambassadors are the welcoming faces of La BiB Library during our open house events. Your primary role is to create a warm, inviting atmosphere while assisting families with library services and activities.

Welcome and Assist: Greet families, answer questions, and share library information.
Book Management: Shelve books and manage check-in/check-out.
Storytime and Activities: Read stories and lead simple, interactive activities.
Event Support: Set up and break down open house activitie

Outreach & Awareness Volunteer

Help spread the word about La BiB and how it works to increase awareness and build relationships with local families.

Community Engagement: Connect with families at parks, schools, markets, and events.
Flyer Distribution: Share flyers and personally invite people to open houses.
Event Support: Attend pop-up events and assist with setup.
Library Knowledge: Stay informed to confidently share information with newcomers.

Fundraising Team Member

Help keep the library running and growing! Fundraising is crucial to maintaining our space, programs, and expanding our collection.

Fundraising Support: Help plan events and brainstorm new initiatives.
Community Outreach: Promote the library and invite community support.
Sponsorship Building: Identify potential sponsors and build relationships.
Merchandise Promotion: Share and wear our products to boost awareness.

Literary Expansion Assistant

These roles ensure a continuous flow of books to the library and their safe transport to where they are needed.

Book Donation Organizer: Collect books from friends, family, and the community.
Book Scout: Search for quality books at garage sales, thrift stores, and library sales.
Book Angel Transporter: Sponsor and transport a suitcase of books on your next trip to Puerto Vallarta.
Community Liaison: Promote and coordinate book donations within the local community.

What specific tasks will I be expected to do as a volunteer?

Volunteers at La BiB Library can choose from a variety of roles based on their interests and skills:

Open House Ambassadors: Greet families, facilitate checking books in and out, read stories, lead simple activities, and help organize and shelve books.
Outreach & Awareness Volunteers: Engage with families in the community, distribute flyers, invite people to open houses, and represent the library at pop-up events.
Fundraising Team Members: Support fundraiser events, invite community members to participate, seek sponsorships, and help promote our Patreon and online merch store.

What qualifications or skills are required? Are there age, language, or physical ability requirements?

Qualifications: No prior experience is necessary—just a passion for helping children and families!
Age Requirements: Volunteers should be at least 16 years old. Families are welcome to volunteer together!
Language Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements: Some roles may involve light lifting (such as carrying books), but we aim to accommodate all abilities.

On which days and at what times does the organization need volunteers?

We primarily need volunteers during our open house events, which typically take place on Tuesdays from 3-6 pm and Saturdays from 11-2 pm. Additional opportunities may be available for outreach events and fundraising activities.

Where is the organization located, and what are the transportation options?

La BiB is located in the Pitillal Neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, México, accessible by bus, walking or rideshare.

Do you accept drop-in volunteers, or is a longer-term commitment required?

We welcome both one-time volunteers for specific events and those interested in longer-term commitments. Signing up in advance helps us plan effectively, but occasional or drop-in help during open houses is also appreciated!

Will I be working alone or with others? Is the work conducted in English, Spanish, or both?

You’ll always be part of a team! Open house shifts usually have 1-3 volunteers working together, and outreach or fundraising efforts involve collaborating with other community members. Our work is bilingual to accommodate both English and Spanish-speaking families.
